Transylvanian Hound History
Transylvanian Hounds were brought by the Magyars in the 9th century when they crossed the Carpathian Mountains.
These hounds were much loved and appreciated by the Hungarian aristocracy, especially during the Middle Ages.
During that period these dogs were used for hunting various game animals. This is why there are two varieties of this breed, taller and shorter versions.
The tall variety was used for hunting big game, such as bear and boar, while the short variety was used for hunting fox and rare.
