Dog Breeds

The shape, size, and color of dog breeds vary greatly. They serve a variety of functions for humans, including therapy, companionship, load-pulling, protection, hunting, herding, helping the military and law enforcement, dragging loads, and hunting.

Dogs have evolved to be particularly adaptable to human behavior over the ages, and research on the human-canine link has been ongoing.

There are eight main dog breed groups: Companion, Herding, Hound, Hybrid, Sporting, Terrier, Working and Mixed breed. Click on any of these groups to learn more about the group and explore the breeds that belong to that group.
